Hey, everyone. It was Labour Day (in most places that aren't the US) a few weeks ago. In our town that often means a brocante (a big flea market) and this year did not disappoint! Here's all the stuff I found, I'll try to mention prices where I can for clarity (just to clarify the kind of prices you might see if you're doing common thrifting in the south of France). I've also picked up a few items during a different day at our local recyclerie. Also, annoying cute frames are back! Sometimes I just feel like slapping them on a photo, forgive me if you hate it.
The Best Find Of Them All
Yes, I am now a proud owner of a Playstation 2. For 30 euros we were able to pick up a PS 2 with the AV and power cables and a controller. It has some minor issue with the disc reader which I think I can fix. Even if I can't, do not worry for I also bought a Free McBoot card to play games the bottle-of-rum kind of way. It runs amazing and there's a bunch of exclusives we can now get our hands on. After the disappointment with the recent PS4 news I'm not really looking to buy anything past the PS3. So far I've played a little Gran Turismo 4 and it runs like a dream.
CDs
A Cranberries Best Of. I've heard that some people don't like best-of albums but I find them pretty great when I jsut want the hits, or a shuffle style listening session of an artist. It was 1 euro.
Natalie Merchant's Tigerlily. I've been back to listening to Listen To Sassy ans they really trash talk Natalie Merchant and 10,000 Maniacs and I'm sure she was sort of obnoxious but I still like her music. Carnival off this album is pretty good. 1 euro.
This album has One Of These Mornings which is a song I recently heard on Miami Vice, the movie. So-so movie with amazing atmosphere and soundtrack, plus I do like Moby's Play and I'm currently in my trip-hop-aligned mood. 1 euro.
I actually think I heard this REM album once but since I have all their early work I think it's time to expand into the rest of their disco. Plus, who can resist the most blurry Gen X Soft Club looking cover of all time? 1 euro.
DVDs/Movies
Hurray, I have the first Scream on DVD at last! And wait, you may say, didn't you just pick up Aliens last week?! Er, yes... but this was a special edition with extras! I also had a funny exchange with the elderly fella selling it. He asks: aren't you scared to watch it? I'm getting mildly annoyed because I assume he's gonna comment how girls are probably easily scared of horror or something Boomer like that. I say: no, I love horror movies. He says: okay, I was too scared to finish it. Hah! Each 1 euro (2 euro total).
My 2nd favourite prequel movie, Revenge of the Sith. Duh! And the Josh Hartnett library continues with Black Hawk Down. 2 euro total.
Epic is such an underrated animated film. Little guys is my fave genre of all time. I wanted to be a small fairy or mermaid or something so bad as a kid. I picked up Avatar at our local thrift store and to be real with you guys, I don't like any of them, not the old one and not the new ones. But my sister really loves re-watching it so I decided to get it for her and it's true, the mechs and other tech in the movie is amazing. To bad it's wasted on the most boring ass story ever. 2 euro total.
For some reason my mum bought me this collector's book of these Star Wars pog looking things. If you collect a bunch you can play a Star Wars checkers type of thing with it. I might do that or repurpose it into a sketchbook because I love the cover. 1 euro.
Jewelry
Technically not thrifted, but my grandma recently sent some things to us via a friend who was travelling to France. She gifted me some of her old pearl earrings and a beautiful necklace with some shimmering little jewel. She was very proud to tell me it's all real silver but I don't even care if it was fake, I love it because I got it from her.
Fashion
I found three amazing summer-y items and all are 100% cotton. Annoyingly, while they all have materials tag still, the brand tags have all been removed to I have no idea where they are from. Anyway! First, this gradient brown skirt with some sequins. It's so cute and for some reason makes me think of Shakira... 2 euros!
Before that I stumbled onto the cutest summer dress with a brown hibiscus print and a lovely light underlayer. 2 euros.
I picked up the last two items during a different week at the local thrift store. The bag we actually got for free! It's faux leather is incredibly damaged so at first we decided not to buy it, even though the studs look amazing. However, the ladies working there decided to give it to us for free so me and my mum will replace the broken material with a new textile.
This last dress I found is so magical and weird I instantly liked it. The colours remind me of W.I.T.C.H so much it's crazy. It was also 2 euros.
Have you read the comics or watched the cartoon? It was like the coolest cartoon of my childhood. I love all the girls but my fave characters have to be Hay Lin and Irma. Do you have a fave W.I.T.C.H girl?
The pockets looked kind of off to me and they also messed with the shape of the dress a bit when I wore it so I decided to remove them. They were also like 2mm deep...so, useless. Luckily they were not sewn into the inseams and were simple to remove.
And so these were the thrift finds of May so far, there's no brocantes in the near future so I don't think I'll be getting anything until the big brocantes in June or July.
