32Bit Fashion Challenge: September Is Pink! #1

I've mentioned briefly in my previous post that the forum I frequent has a fashion thread, and now we've also got a fashion challenge thread! Every month the fashionistas of 32Bit will be picking a theme and trying looks on that relate to the theme. Anyone is welcome! You can even draw, do online dress ups, or dress up dolls and partake in the challenge. The theme for September is pink! Any pink item will do!

I decided to finally style this gem that I thrifted in the summer: the pink Burton tanktop. I went for a bit of a girly, perhaps a little McBling-y look. Only issue was that I realized that the right boot has a bit of a tear inside that pushes the steel-toe cap into my foot. I need to put some fabric there before I injure myself. I think a funky top and a denim skirt is rarely a miss so that's the kind of chill but flashy look I was trying to achieve here. 

Here's the same thing with a jacket and a handbag, say if I was going out. I want to be going out but my life is so boring...

Trying On Outfits Styled By Other People~! #2

Hey, everyone. As mentioned in my previous post, I've gone back and tried some more of the looks that were styled for me by users on Whering and some that I even know from the indie web! There's many cool things that I never even thought of and I had a lot of fun trying everything on. Without further ado...

Outfit #1

So the first look is a ridiculous amount of fun and nearly perfect for the current weather. It's just a smidge too warm for a hoodie right now.  It's styled by Michelle (username: sailorminivan). The casualness of the hoodie and the girlishness of the skirt and tank-top go perfect together. I don't really think of things as masculine/feminine, and more as being casual/fanciful and I love when they are mixed together. I honestly really love it, it's so cute and magical. Hence, my really random DVD of Winx season 6 volume 2! I think I'm gonna start to run out of DVDs pretty fast...

Okay, enough jokes! It's an amazing look and I will wear it out this autumn! I love skirts over jeans but for some reason never actually brave wearing them. Also I didn't think that the pink of the polo would go so great with the yellow in the skirt! It totally does! I'm bad at colours... Maybe kind of on the nose but I picked Juno, I know Alice loves that movie as well haha! Elliott Page forever!

The third look is styled by Juette (username: juette) who I know from Neocities and the 32bit Forum where we both frequent the fashion thread. There's even a fashion challenge going on right now that will be a monthly occurrence. Current theme: pink! More on that later. This look is very seasonal to me, I love it. The boots are quite warm for right now but I really hope I can justify wearing them in October or November. These are also my regular glasses (the only ones that survived...) but they look quite fashionable styled like this! Picked one of my favourite lo-fi/indie albums from one of my fave bands, the Caesars to go with this look with little reasoning, just vibes.

The fourth outfit is the second half of Nunya's (username @lindsaywoolsey) submission from the last entry. It's very interesting because the dress really looks like a top the way it's styled here. Seems logical but as you guys know I basically have the minimum brain function possible for some reason when it comes to a lot of things, especially fashion, so I never thought of this. It pairs really well with the colour of the skirt but the top of the skirt is a little tight so I don't know how wearable it would be on the regular but I like it. Maybe I can try it with a different skirt. I picked Anastacia's self-titled album, I think because the long brown skirt and belt combo was reminding me of pop faux-country.

The last look for this entry was also one of the three styled by Shawna (username @shawnarip). She even showed herself styling me in one of her recent videos! I feel like a mini-celebrity. I love this top but don't wear it often because I'm not sure what to pair it with. Well, the colours look fantastic with this skirt and I love those sunglasses so any day I can put them on is a good day. The safari-esque nature of the look made me think of childhood movies about animals. I'd pick Lion King but I don't have it on DVD so Spirit it is! By the way, this ENTIRE look is made up of thrifted items, that's pretty cool!

I seriously enjoy checking out how others would style me in my clothes because it just shows me how many different tastes there are and how much I like about all of them. It also makes me feel that I do have a unique taste in fashion: after so long floundering about between aesthetics, subcultures, and eras of fashion I was honestly very bad at all of it. I'm not longer really looking for a label and just going with what I like and not calling it anything. This isn't anything against subcultures, which I respect, but more a self-reflection on my own indecisiveness which I'm just going to roll with in the future.

Trying On Outfits Styled By Other People~! #1

So, I've mentioned a few times that I've been trying out an app for closet organizing/indexing. It's called Whering and so far it's working pretty well. It's kinda laggy, often times removes backgrounds incorrectly, and in general can be a bit confusing. However it is much better than the app I used before (that I forgot the name of already...) because it lets you style others and have them style you. I'm gonna stick to it for awhile as I really like the social component. A few people have style me on there already and today I tried on a bunch of suggestions and took some pics, here they are:

This outfit was styled by Shawna (username @shawnarip). I actually followed a bunch of people on Whering thanks to her Youtube channel where everyone was sharing their usernames. It's super fresh and sporty, and I can actually wear long cargos soon! I love the pairing of baby blue and grey so I'm a big fan. I decided the red Ripcurl bag was a better fit as this look is more comfort-oriented and that bag is all about utility. I thought it would be fun to pair the outfits with movies from my DVD collection, maybe that's a dumb idea, I'm not sure... but this reminded me of Blue Crush, probably because of the Ripcurl bag.

The second outfit was by Alice (not the usual suspect!), username @alicewonders. I felt super high fashion in this look, I think the casual tee with the boxy suit jacket was really selling me on it. I'd have to take this to an event of some kind because I can't see it being an every day wear. But totally special event material. It's fashion forwardness made me think of Zoolander, I actually like a lot of looks in those movies. Like, are they objectively insane? Yes, but so is fashion! I wish I had a bigger mirror because I feel like the pics are so terrible...

The third look was styled by Nunya (username @lindsaywoolsey). This is really up my alley and I'm kind of shocked I never thought to pair this top with this dress. Good thinking, Nunya! I love the colours, I think because the reds in the socks and the top really work together. The more medieval silhouette (maybe the faux drop-waist) made me feel like a fashionable Hobbiton extra so I picked the first of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Fellowship of the Ring. Nunya also included a second look I'd love to try out another day.

The final look for this post was by Cassidy (username @cassidyk). A more summer-y look, it originally came without the tank top but I decided to include it. I may have the confidence to rock a look with the belly out one day but I don't think that's today. Very girly and fun, I love browns and greens together. I think the colour and silhouette reminded me so much of fairies that I was only thinking about re-watching Epic as I was putting the outfit on.
