Had a chance to stop by some recycleries after work in the past few months and I've found some great stuff. There was also a brocante/flea market in town, though it was a little sparse there were quite a few good finds.
First, I picked up a lotta DVDs.
Ridley Scott's Kingdom Of Heaven is a pretty great historical epic. If you like some beautiful set pieces and a relatively grounded plot for the scale of the movie, this is a great pick. I usually find Orlando Bloom quite wooden but he kind of holds his own in this one despite being across some much stronger actors.
Um, this movie is a literal piece of shit. Like, for real. But yeah, Josh Hartnett. The collection will be complete... I guess if you just turn the sound off completely and throw on a good trip hop album this is a halfway decent music video as there's some pretty good interior design.
I haven't seen the remake but I did find the original with Stellan Skarsgard deeply off putting in a good way. Plus, Al Pacino!
I watched Constantine for the first time this year and it is a visually amazing movie. I wish they'd make more edgy movies like this... and yeah, Rachel Weisz!
I don't love Terminal but my mum and brother do. Well, I guess it's one of the very few Tom Hanks movies I don't mind re-watching. There's a baby Diego Luna in it too.
A very, very good concept with a poor execution. It's a real shame that the story is spread so thin and doesn't live up to the absolute capitalist shithole nightmare that is the world of Elysium. Also featuring Diego Luna.
At the brocante I picked up a huge stack of letter paper for... you know who you are! Anyway, it features a character I often saw as a kid because I had a Belgian friend who had a bunch of this wacky little mouse on all her stationery. Diddle is a very unfortunate name for a children's brand but I guess they were never looking to expand into the English-speaking market so it's no matter.
Back at the recyclerie I saw a small bag with the exact Tokidoki print that my friend had on her bag years ago! I remember because of all the pirate babes and stuff. It's super cute and fits a phone and some other stuff. Basically, when I don't need to carry my usual 50+ items around.
The coolest find is probably this rectangular Converse bag. It's just so cool. It's got pockets all over, a gradient pattern on the front, and... it's just awesome!
I also picked up a very cute tanktop with lacey straps in my favourite apple green.
I was debating getting these but when I tried them on, it was fate! A while ago I had random pics in the footer of my blog and one of them was this page out of Cosmogirl because I was really in love with the boots the model was wearing.
Well, I basically found them (not really ahah, but it's more that I was looking for the silhouette of the boot)... these are authentic biker boots and they are a little beat up but they fit great and have that lose form that I was looking for. A perfect rounded toe. Just a totally lucky find.
Now, for the weirdest find... sometime last year I took a deep-dive into the world of doll repaints. I was going to start back when but decided that I really didn't need to get into another hobby especially if I wasn't sure whether it was for me. So I decided if I was still into it in a year I could try it out with some second-hand dolls. Well, I found a Gen 1 Clawdeen and she cost me less than a euro.
She's missing one hand right now and her hair is musty-crusty but that's fine because I'll be re-rooting her anyway. I know I won't be able to finish her in the summer (plus, doing the face in this heat is not the best idea...) but in the autumn I'll get to finishing her. Stay tuned!
And that's all for this thrift season. Summer's coming up, I'm always looking for more movies, music, and consoles so hopefully the next flea markets will have some options.
